Honestly this is the best day of Puff's life and he's quite content to stay in her lap for as long as she wants him to. He settles into a loaf, eyes closed but he's clearly listening to everything she has to say, a soft purr starting to escape him after a few minutes.
"The forest was...I don't think anyone walked away from that in a good state of mind," Noctis admitted, a slight shudder going through him. He'd experienced some nightmares that he didn't care to experience ever again.
He's properly distracted by the Absol that he's introduced to, offering a smile to the canine as Ignis explains the name.
"Hey, Caelum. It's nice to meet you," he greeted, resisting the urge to try and reach out to pet the Absol since he seemed, well, too proper for that sort of thing.
"They've been alright. We spent awhile in Olivine after we got back from the Safari Zone then came to Goldenrod when that explosion happened." He frowns now, shaking his head. "It was a mess and hopefully nothing like that happens again. We both ended up taking some Pokemon in that we found there."
Caelum fluffs his fur contentedly at Noctis, looking pleased with the young man. Once Ignis is settled he moves to sit down next to Dahlia and listen to her stories even though he had been present for many of them. It seemed the polite thing to do.
Ignis nods, settling Oleander in the chair opposite of Dahlia now. He was comfortable enough with the different perspective that he wasn't concerned with making mistakes while eating.
"I am glad no one was gravely injured in the explosion. It's certainly been difficult. I'm glad you took in some of the Pokemon as well."
"Yeah well--" Hold on. "Okay, look, I only took in one! The others we took to the Pokemon Center but Tamala was pretty insistent on staying with Shepard and Pride!"
He doesn't have a problem, Ignis. Seriously.
Puff glances over at his trainer and let's out a quiet little snort-purr, ears flicking as he leans into Dahlia again.
"Shut up," Noctis murmured at the Skitty before he looked at Ignis again and gave him a lopsided grin. "So, any plans? On where you guys are going, I mean. Because if not you guys should come back to Olivine with us."
Of course not, Noctis. Ignis had said no such thing. He merely implied it and implication meant nothing until presented as solid proof. Like the state of Noctis's box was a fine proof...
Dahlia was giggling as well before burying her face into Skitty fur, pushing her glasses askew.
"None currently. We have been taking the scenic route for the most part, but it would be good to come together again."
"Yeah, it really would. There's a few houses near where Ash and I got places that we could get you into! The landlord is pretty cool about things so I'm sure it wouldn't be an issue," Noctis said thoughtfully, already planning out how he could budget for it because he's going to make this happen one way or another even if he has to pay for everything.
Maybe Ignis was a little quick in saying it. He feared it maybe sounded ungrateful, and he adjusts his sunglasses gently. He shouldn't sweep that rug out so quickly.
"What I mean is, I have income. I can pay for my own. You should use your money for something you want, not spend it on someone perfectly capable of handling their own situation."
Ignis was supposed to be taking care of Noctis anyway, not the other way around.
"I know I don't need to but I don't have anything else to do with the money I have right now. I'm renting a place for myself, I have a job in Olivine for whenever I'm there--I want to make sure you and Prompto have a place to stay," he said with a shrug, clearly not that bothered by the idea of doing this.
Seriously, Ignis. He's done seven gyms on top of working constantly. It's not an issue.
Ignis was going to fight more, lifting his hand, opening his mouth but he restrains himself. He lowers his hand back down before reaching up to rub the bridge of his nose.
"I keep forgetting you are far more established here than I am. I apologize. You hardly need any of my help."
There might have been a note of sadness there, like all of this was reminding him of something else but he shook it off.
"Are you and Ash planning on sharing lodging? Or has that conversation not come up yet?"
"It's only because of everything you and Gladio taught me that I even got to where I am here," Noct said softly, protesting a bit because come on, Ignis. You should know better than to think he doesn't need you around. "But I still have a lot of stuff I'm really terrible at so it would be awesome to have you with us."
He misses you, Ignis. You and Prompto both.
The steward's next comment has Noctis blushing suddenly, squinting at Ignis as he shakes his head hurriedly.
"N-no why--what? Why would we be sharing a place??"
"Ah, so you still need someone to cook for you." Ignis smiles slightly to show he's joking. Of course he's joking, surely Noct has learned to cook to some degree by now. He would hope, at least. Though Ash seemed to be a fine cook if Noctis would give him the opportunity.
Not that Ignis was looking for a way to get out of a job.
"Ash seems quite fond of you and you seem fond enough of him. I assumed that would make the most sense. Have you not spoken to one another about your relationship?"
"Yeah that's totally it, specs. I only want you around to cook for me." Not that he was going to object to some of Ignis's meals because good god could the man cook but there were a lot of other reasons why he wanted his friend around.
But he'd list those later. Right now he's too busy sputtering.
"What relationship?? He's just--we're friends! We've talked about that but there's nothing else going on--why would--does it seem like there is?" Yeah there might be a sort of curious note to his voice; hopeful even.
"Ah so I was blind but now I see. You only need me for food. Such is the life of the Prince's steward." He smirks slightly, lifting his coffee to take a sip. He realized the irony of his statement.
"So you have talked but feelings change over time. The two of you enjoy one another's company and there is no reason to ignore that. He seems to enjoy your company quite a bit."
He leans back, crossing his legs. Oleander adjusts as he does so, draping over Ignis's knee.
"Perhaps you should invite him on a more romantic excursion. A date couldn't hurt and if it there isn't a romantic click then you can move on from it."
Noctis is just going to continue to sputter a bit because what the hell how did this conversation end up like this?!
"We're not--Specs! We haven't even--I don't even know if he likes me like that! You are getting way ahead of yourself!" Noctis protested, blushing even more now which had Puff Trouble snorting in amusement from his place curled up with Dahlia. The prince shot him a weak glare then looked down at his drink, toying with the glass as he tried to get control of his emotions.
Goddammit, Ignis.
"I enjoy his company, too, but that..I don't want to mess anything up."
"Well, you can't find out if he likes you like that unless you ask him or make the attempt."
Dahlia was giggling, petting Puff on the head with an amused look. Come on, Noctis~ Follow Puff's example and just embrace what you like. Or really, climb into their lap and purr.
Ignis seemed equally amused.
"You won't mess anything up. You should embrace the opportunity. Explain to him you don't want it to affect your friendship but you would like to know how he feels romantically. Maintain that open line of communication."
"Okay whoa whoa you are--both of you are getting ahead of yourselves!" he said hurriedly, still blushing as he eyed Ignis then Dahlia and Puff. Since he was there and looking like a little shit as well. "That's a really big step and I mean we've known each other since we arrived here and we have spent a lot more time together the past few months but still!"
It wasn't rushing, Noctis. Embrace it. Find out if he feels the same!
Puff let out a huffy feline sigh and hopped off Dahlia's lap to scamper across the table to his trainer. The little feline mewed at him and hopped over to his shoulder only to promptly bap his ear.
"It seems Puff feels the same as I do." Even if he wasn't running across a table to make his point known. He normally would have said something about cats on tables but this was completely appropriate. If he was close enough and had the inkling to he would have bapped Noct's ear as well.
"I feel that because you are currently outvoted three to one, as Oleander would hardly enter the fray," Which Oleander was shaking his head. Nope, not involved in this at all. "You should make the attempt. The worst that would happen is he would decline your offer and you could continue your friendship."
That gets the prince wincing and he glances down, clearly still uncomfortable with certain things.
"It's...I guess I kind of have," he admits, shoulders sagging. "I just haven't known what to say or do because I know it's not the Prompto that was here before but it's still Prompto so it's--it's weird."
"Speak to him as you always have. He is your friend. Share what you feel is appropriate. The two of you have always been close and in this situation he is in a better position to..."
Relate to Noctis. Ignis would always do his best but a decade was a long span of time.
Time had.. robbed Ignis of a lot of that youthful enthusiasm.

"You guys are jerks." But hey, it wasn't a no! So maybe he'll give it a shot and see what happens!
Maybe.
Okay it's probably going to take awhile but he'll get there one day. Hopefully not before it's too late.
